The women’s golf team competed in its Sectional matchup on Sept.19. Playing at their home course of Maple Creek Country Club, the team took third place in the match, with a team score of 397 between the five players. Their third place finish was behind only Park Tudor and Lawrence Central, whose teams finished with scores of 380 and 393 respectively.

The team’s Sectional performance this year was an improvement on last year, when they finished fourth with a team score of 418. Head Coach Mr. Ryan Brammer believes that the improved finish was due to practice and more experience. He said, “This season we put a big focus on playing our home course, Maple Creek Country Club, with better strategy and we got the results we were looking for. The schedule was home heavy and provided that extra exposure.”

Brammer added that having three returning varsity players in senior Allison Haug and juniors Tillie Browning and Jacquie Piper. Browning led the way for the team in the Sectional, with a score of 86 that was good for third place overall. Haug and Piper were next, shooting 97 and 106. Sophomore Amelia Buchner and junior Izzy Marasco also contributed, with scores of 108 and 112 respectively.

With that third place finish, the team earned a berth in the Regional which was played at The Edge in Anderson on Sept. 24. They competed against 14 other schools. Brammer was happy with the team’s performance, saying, “The experience at the Regional was great. We continued to play well that weekend and finished 7th out of 15.” Although their score of 390 was not enough to advance to the State Championship, which will be held at Prairie View Country Club on Oct. 1, there were some key bright spots in the team’s performance.

Piper, Marasco, and Buhner all improved their scores from the Sectional to the Regional. Browning once again had the lowest score, with a 90.

Despite the Regional loss, Brammer feels that the team is in a good place, and is very prepared for next season. He said, “With four returners from the roster coming back, our aspirations are high for the program’s 10th trip to the State Championship.”
