The team currently sits at 10-2 and is in action Wednesday May 1 against Guerin Catholic.

Cathedral’s Boys Lacrosse team has always been a force to be reckoned with but this year they are stronger than ever. This year they have found their rhythm and are not slowing down anytime soon.

Head coach Andy Gruber said, “This team is not dependent upon any one player for success. This allows for us to offset the natural ebb and flow of outstanding play by any one player by having multiple other options on the field. If we keep up this unselfish approach, this team has the opportunity to be very successful.”

The team is currently ranked 107 in the nation and number 2 in the state. The season started off with a game against St. Louis University, winning 14-2. They are now 10-2 playing teams from all over the Midwest. Not only is the skill contributing to the success of the team but also the connections and brotherhood off the field.

Captain Ian Bonacuse ’24 said, “Our relationships are strongly influenced by what happened last year. Through failure, we built ourselves up as a team and as a brotherhood. It shows when we are out on the field, not just one person is leading the team, it is every man out there pushing one another to become better every day. This helps us to work as one full unit.”

With the team finishing their season 4-10 last year, the hard work and dedication to rebuild the program shows through the players this season. Team Captain Jack Bedich ’24 said, “The major difference between this season and others in the past is the connectedness that we have with everyone on the team. Lots of guys have played together for years and have started to perform as a unit and not just as a group of players. Lots of guys were very inexperienced last year which is not the case this year.”

Although the team has faced tough competition all over the Midwest such as Culver Military Academy, St. Xavier, Hamilton Southeastern, and Carmel, the team still keep a fighting attitude to motivate the wins.

Although the team has a lot of season left, they have come a long way in a short time dominating the rest of the state. Team captain Joey Konesco 24’ said, “This season is a lot different than past ones because we know what is at stake. The seniors on this team are great leaders and know what it takes to win a state championship. We have a great team and most importantly every guy on the team has a mindset of winning state.”
