Bailey Brownlow ’26

What kinds of things do you participate in and outside of school?

Bailey – “At school, I run track and am a part of speech and debate and have been since freshman year. I am also a part of the holy cross leaders council, the black student union, and the Embrace Club. I’m also a trainer for the football team and have to be at every one of their games. I think it’s a fun job to have and I am glad to be participating in all these activities, but it causes me to have a really busy schedule.”

Do you have a close relationship with your family and what does a close relationship mean to you?

Bailey – “I am so glad to have such a good close family relationship. We have such a good bond and have an easy time connecting and understanding each other too. My family has cared for and supported me through everything and I feel blessed to have them as my parents and siblings. A close relationship just means having someone to lean on and to always have no matter what situation may come my way.”

Did you travel a lot growing up?

Bailey – “Yes, we try to take vacations every summer, since we are really busy throughout the year with football, school, work, and other things like that. We like to be in environments and places that are different from Indiana since we’ve been living here forever and it’s the same scenery everywhere you go….. cornfields. My parents like learning about new history, cultures, and people so we always try to go somewhere new.”

Looking at the relationships you have now, are you close with a lot of people from your childhood?

Bailey – “Looking at the relationship I have now I realize that don’t have a connection with anybody that I went to elementary school with. I’m sad that I didn’t keep in touch with the friends I made. I think it was just difficult since we were all going to different schools and the only form of keeping in touch would be through our parent’s cell phone since we didn’t have one year. I’m not going to make that same mistake here at Cathedral.”

What did your parents do for work?

Bailey – “I think my parents have cool jobs. My mom works as a judge downtown and my dad owns some property and is also a head manager at a factory.”

Do you see yourself ever leaving Indiana?

Bailey – “Yes definitely, I have been here way too long and hope to live in some new places throughout my life. But I am for sure leaving Indiana once I graduate from Cathedral!”

What brought you to Cathedral?

Bailey – “I’m a legacy which means I have relatives that attended Cathedral, so I had no choice, but I am happy to go here!”

When your time at Cathedral is over, what do you want to be remembered for?

Bailey – “I would just like to be remembered for who I was as a person and my leadership skills. I am a part of many clubs so hopefully I make an impact in the coming years.”

When you leave Cathedral what do you hope to be doing and where do you hope to be at?

Bailey – “My goal after leaving Cathedral is to go and graduate from an Ivy League school. I want to graduate with a major in political science since I want to become a senator. I think I got this passion for becoming a senator from my mom who is a judge.”

How important is your faith life?

Bailey – “My faith life is a very important aspect is my character. I feel like faith sort of gives you a designated purpose in life, God. It is the fundamental foundation of my ex since of course, my faith life is extremely important to me and my whole life revolves around it. Like how I act and how I take in information and things like that.”

Whether inside the Cathedral or outside of the school, how do you demonstrate your faith in life?

Bailey – “The little things like making sure everyone is happy and included in everything I do. Being part of BSU and Embrace Club, I have to participate and show some sort of leadership or even just an interest in what I’m doing. Incorporating faith into this shows people that I do care and am happy to be there.”

What traditions do you have in your life that you look forward to every year?

Bailey – “Oddly enough, In my house, we never take our Christmas tree down, so it stays up all year., something many people want to do but never end up doing. Since this has become a family tradition I am always looking forward to Christmas time when I get to put up ornaments and decorate the tree and then take them down but leave the tree up. It just gives my family an opportunity and a way to spend some time together.”

Which holiday is your favorite and what makes it your favorite?

Bailey – “Like many other people, Christmas is my favorite holiday. I think it’s because my family makes a big deal out of it and it’s the biggest family holiday for me. Family is super important to me and Christmas is the perfect time to show it.”

What are a few items that would be at the top of your bucket list? When are you hoping to accomplish those by?

Bailey – “I hope to end my high school career with a 4.0 GPA. As any other student, I plan to accomplish this by working hard with my studies and putting hard work into everything I do, so that I can stand out to my teachers.”

What is one “insult” that someone has said about you that you actually think is a compliment?

Bailey – “That’s a good question. I get the insult of “You are so bossy”, but in reality, I take that as a compliment. I think it builds character and allows my confidence to grow. I’m not afraid of voicing what is in my mind and will say it if I have to. I rarely hold back on voicing my opinions and am glad that people notice it.”

What’s one lesson your job/position has taught you that you think everyone should learn at some point in their life?

Bailey – “I think being a trainer for the football team allows me to become bossy like I said before but it also teaches me that a change in attitude can help any situation. Having the right attitude is the only way that you can accomplish something. Having a bad attitude will get you nowhere and confidence is everything.”

What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone no matter the role/job/situation?

Bailey – “It’s simple, to work hard for what you want. There isn’t much else that you need when entering a difficult role. Work hard and get the outcome you want.”

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Bailey – “It is definitely when people belittle me. I’m sure this is also a big pet peeve among other people. People making you feel as if you aren’t important shatters them and just doesn’t make them feel good. I don’t know why anybody would want to do that anyway. I think everyone has experienced something like that and the best thing is to just continue what you are doing.”

Tell me about the three most influential people in your life and how they impacted you.

Bailey – “That’s an easy question, my mom, my dad, and my uncle. My mom has taught me to believe in myself no matter what to work hard for what I want in life, and to never give up. My dad teaches me every day to be strong and is such a great role model as he shows his ability to work harder and harder making him stronger. Last but not least my uncle. He was my biggest supporter.”

What are you most thankful for?

Bailey – “My family and friends. They’re the best thing that ever happened to me. They are my rock, my source of support. They’ve seen me go through all of my ups and downs and have stayed by my side and helped me face everything that life throws my way. I wouldn’t be where I am right now without them.”
