Winter sports update: Wrestling
During a match earlier this season, senior JJ Braun receives instructions from a coach. The wrestling team won the Regional title on Feb. 5 and will compete in the Semistate at New Castle on Feb. 12.
The wrestling team competed in the Sectional on Jan. 29, and came out successful. Ten wrestlers were individual Sectional champions and four were runners-up. The team has outstanding leadership from seniors Evan Dickey, Zeke Seltzer, Luke Gonzalez and J.J. Braun, as well as juniors Aden Reyes and Josh Johnson.
They competed in the Regional on Feb. 5, and all 13 wrestlers advanced to Semistate. The team easily won the Regional title, running up 233.5 points to Regional runner-up Hamilton Heights total of 93.
Upcoming: The Semistate tournament will be held on Feb. 12 at the New Castle fieldhouse and the State meet will be Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
From Head Coach Mr. Sean McGinley: “All of our guys have made huge strides during this season. Everyone is reaching their peak at the right time. We are without a doubt the most well-conditioned team in the state, which will aid us greatly on our road to victory. We will continue to fine tune and make adjustments these next few weeks as the guys grow more eager for the matches yet to come.”
