Many students at Cathedral spend the majority of their time outside of school in extracurriculars such as sports or clubs. When not on the Hill, freshman Cora Hill spends her time rehearsing for dance recitals.  

Cora Hill has been dancing for 10 years and began her career at Indianapolis School of Ballet but she currently attends Dance Creations Academy. Her main dance category is ballet, however she also performs contemporary and jazz. She spends numerous hours a week at her studio. Hill can be found at her studio five to six times a week for two hours of rehearsals or more. 

Due to spending the majority of her time at her studio, Hill has found amazing friends and a place she considers a home. 

Hill said, “My current studio feels almost like more of a home to me than my actual house. I love all of my friends there and it’s fun to spend time dancing with them. They’re more of a family to me.”

Upon entering Cathedral, Hill joined the school marching band playing the French horn. Hill enjoys the marching band and has noticed that learning new forms of musicality helps benefit her dancing. 

“I played French horn in band in middle school so I knew I wanted to continue with it in high school. Cathedral had an awesome band program so I enrolled because of that. Band has definitely helped me with musicality in dance, while dance also helps me with marching. I think the awareness of my body along with my musicality helps me keep my steps the right size while keeping them in time with the music.”

Hill plans on joining a professional dance company straight out of high school. Further on in her career, she wishes to open her own studio and choreograph shows. She said, “Choreographing is one of my favorite things to do because it allows me to be very creative, so I’d love to do it in the future.”
