As Cathedral begins its second semester for the 2023/2024 school year, there are many incoming transfer students, workers behind the scenes, and also a new School Resource Officer.
Lieutenant Keith Minch is a 26-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. He has retired this month to take on his duties here at Cathedral. After his retirement, he transitioned into the IMPD Reserve Unit, working as an academy instructor, district detective, Patrol Sergeant and Lieutenant, Financial Crimes sergeant, and many other roles in his many years of service with IMPD.
He not only has 20 years of experience as a Crisis Intervention Team member and has completed the National Incident Management System, but he is also a Marine Corps veteran with a Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University.
While serving in the Marine Corps, Lt. Minch spent 6 years traveling to many different places. He moved through many parts of the United States, also traveling to Japan for 6 months. He says, “I did extensive travel in the Marines to include living in Europe for 30 months.”
After years of hard work and determination, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and graduated from the Marine Non-Commissioned Officers Leadership School. He was later awarded the Navy Achievement Medal by the United States Embassy.
Lt. Minch shares 4 children with his wife Siobhan, whom he met while serving at the Embassy in Switzerland. Three of his children are Cathedral graduates and his youngest is currently a sophomore on the Hill. The family attends St. Lawrence Parish in Indianapolis.
Minch has not only helped to provide the foundation for his own children, but for the numerous boys and girls he has coached in sports at St. Lawrence School. While his children attended St. Lawrence School, he was an active member of their athletics, working as both the Athletic Director and Gym Manager. He is still dedicated to those 2 positions and has been for more than 10 years. That dedication has led to his selection as a recipient of the 2022 St. John Bosco Award, the highest honor of the archdiocese’s CYO. Lt. Minch says, “I currently serve on the CYO Board of Directors so I enjoy coaching and being involved in kids’ lives.”
Cathedral High School is fully committed and dedicated to keeping its students and campus safe. Working as the School Resource Officer, Lt. Minch oversees all campus safety initiatives at Cathedral. He hopes to build positive relationships with students and educate them in all the safety areas at school.
