“Knives Out”

“Knives Out” is a hilarious whodunnit that keeps you on your toes throughout its run time. The movie has a star-studded cast that will have you guessing and laughing. With amazing visuals and well-made sets, you feel like you are in an Agatha Christie novel.

However, what does this film say for the genre?

The film is about the death of mystery writer Harlan Thrombey. On the night of his demise, his family and staff gathered at his house to celebrate his 85th birthday. The next morning, he was found dead. With everybody present having a motive and bad blood all around, no suspect can be eliminated.

Now it’s up to private investigator Benoit Blanc, the police, and Thrombey’s nurse Marta Cabrera to find the real killer before it’s too late.

The film is visually stunning and well-cast. Daniel Craig gives a hilarious and captivating performance as southern detective Benoit Blanc. Additionally, the actors playing the family members are incredibly funny and diabolical in their roles. The film takes a revisionist stance on the murder mystery genre. It pokes fun at tropes in the genre but creates new rules and twists.

I believe that “Knives Out” may lead to more whodunnits in the future that try to recapture the thrills this movie provides.

“Knives Out” is a wonderful delight for mystery and thriller fans. I recommend, whether you like mysteries or not, to go see this film and enjoy it for yourself.
