The marching band performs in the gym last fall during open house. The Pride of the Irish will return to the WAC on May 10 for the annual spring band gala.

The annual spring band gala will take place May 10 in the Welch Activity Center at 7 p.m. This year, the Pride of the Irish will perform with the Notre Dame band, as this group of college musicians starts off the first night of their Midwest tour to different high schools.

Director of Bands Mrs. Kathy McCullough said, “We do the gala every year but we don’t have Notre Dame every year.” Usually the concert takes place in the O’Malia Performing Arts Center, but this year it will be in the WAC to accommodate the Notre Dame band.

McCullough said the band has prepared since St. Patrick’s Day. She said, “Band is a class. We practice during alpha, five days out of seven, (and) we’ve been going for about two months to get ready.”

While parents, alumni, Notre Dame fans and friends of the students in band will make up the bulk of the crowd, everyone is welcome, and there is no charge for admission. McCullough said, “We combine the bands to play the Notre Dame victory march at the end, and Dr. (Thomas) Greer is going to direct it.”
