The Cathedral boys swim team closed its sectional meet this past weekend with fast times and championship final swims. The sectional meet marked the final high school meet of the 2025-2026 season and the final overall high school meet for seniors Tyler Neucks and Wyatt Field who both had performances that highlighted their years of hard work and commitment in Cathedral’s swim program.
As the meet unfolded the attention went to not just the times but the moment meant for the team, mainly the underclassmen who watched their seniors race for one final time. “This has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I am so excited to see where the next three years of Cathedral swimming take me,” freshman Grant Reid said.
Tyler Neucks gave one of the standout performances of the meet in his 50 yard freestyle, finishing second in the meet with a time of 21.99, close to the school record and narrowly missing state. The race came down to less than half a second between first and second place with Tyler barely getting outtouched by first place. The end result being just short of advancing to state the performance was a personal and program milestone the showed years of hard work in training.

high school meet for seniors. “Being part of this team has shown me what it means to work hard for something bigger than yourself,” freshman Grant Reid said.
Wyatt Field, another senior, also made a mark on the meet in the championship final of the 500 yard freestyle. Competing against the fastest distance swimmers in the sectional, Wyatt held his own and showcased his commitment to the sport in his final high school meet. Beyond just individual events, the Cathedral relays pushing into the championship finals as well. This highlights the team depth and ability to work together to represent the school in the best way possible. The seniors along with underclassmen showed their team spirit and symbolized the passing of experience and expectation from one class to the next.
Head Coach Amanda Long will remember this season for a long time and said, “Coaching this team, especially the seniors, has been a privilege to say the least. They’ve set the standard for what commitment and leadership looks like in this program.”
For the underclassmen watching Tyler and Wyatt compete showed them what their future may look like and what it will take to reach their goals. Their performances both in and out of the water reflected their team work and quiet discipline that goes unnoticed.
As the season ends and the seniors step away from their high school swimming chapter the team is reminded that their influence will remain in the team culture. The races at sectionals were benchmarks for the swimmers who will return next year.
