1.Texas
Texas has probably the best 2 wins of the season as of right now with some solid wins back to back. Week 1, Texas obliterated a solid Mountain West team in Colorado State 52-0 giving back up Arch Manning a chance to get some snaps. Texas followed up their domination with a win over defending champs Michigan in Ann Arbor. While Michigan definitely was not as good as last season, Texas made them look horrible. Texas looks to be one of the favorites to win the SEC as a first year member of the conference. Texas might really be back.
Next week: vs. UTSA
2. Georgia
Georgia is continuing its dominance as the best program of the 2020’s so far with a great start to the 2024 season. After a statement win in week one over Clemson letting the rest of the SEC know they’re still on top, they continued dominance in a gimme game over Tennessee Tech. Carson Beck looks really good and the rest of their team is good enough to make a National Championship very possible. Their biggest game is in 2 weeks when they head to Alabama.
Next week: @Kentucky
3. Ohio State
Ohio State has looked incredibly good through the first 2 weeks of the year and are clearly the best team in the Big 10. Both games were throw away games for Ohio State and won a combined 108-6. Ohio State might have the best defense in the country too and will be a legitimate threat to the national championship all season
Next week: vs. Marshall
4. Miami
Miami hasn’t been too relevant since 2001 but they look dangerous now. Quarterback Cam Ward might win the Heisman this year. They destroyed in-state rival Florida at Florida in week 1 and followed it up with a 56-9 win over Florida A&M. Miami should breeze through the ACC and be a big contender in this year’s playoff.
Next week: vs Ball State
5. Alabama
Alabama will be interesting all year as they face the post Nick Saban era. They looked great against Western Kentucky in week 1 but looked shaky in a 42-16 game against USF that was closer than the score. Alabama has the talent to be great but will Kalen DeBoer lead them to Saban-like heights?
Next week: @Wisconsin
6. Tennessee
Tennessee asserted themselves with a great win over a solid NC State team in Charlotte 51-10. New Quarterback Nico Iamaleava looks like the real deal and a true Heisman Quarterback. The defense looks solid as well and the team should definitely push for an SEC championship and the 12 team playoff. Their schedule will be tough though with games against Bama, Oklahoma, and Georgia.
Next week: vs Kent State
7. Penn State
The Nittany Lions got a scare in week 2 against Bowling Green but also cruised to victory at West Virginia which was one of the best wins of week 1. Drew Allar looks great as Quarterback and could lead Penn State back to former glory. Their defense as usual looked good in Week 1 but struggled against Bowling Green. The 12 team playoff seems perfect for Penn State but can they meet expectations for the first time under Franklin?
Next week: bye
8. Ole Miss
Ole Miss has been on the come up over the last few years and this could be the year it comes to fruition. Jaxon Dart is more mature and looks better than ever before and the wide receivers are almost better than any school in the country. The first 2 games have been guaranteed games but they looked great. They’ll have a chance at the SEC championship game but will most likely be playing for a playoff appearance.
Next week: @Wake Forest
9. USC
USC after a huge disappointment of a season looks like they’ve improved in their weak spots of the team. The defense looked way better against LSU and the offense as usual under Lincoln Riley is awesome. Miller Moos looks like a perfect replacement for Caleb Williams and the remaining schedule is gettable for USC. An appearance in both the Big 10 championship and the College Football Playoff looks very possible
Next week: @Michigan
10. University of Missouri
Mizzou was the surprise last year, even beating Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. The offense looks like it’ll be great again and through the first 2 weeks against weak teams they scored at will. Mizzou will need to keep playing at a high level to avoid a disappointing season.
Next week: vs Boston College
