What to Eat for Thanksgiving?
Next week on the hill Cathedral will be officially on Thanksgiving break to spend time with loved ones and be in a state of thankfulness, but what does Cathedral favor in Thanksgiving food that makes this holiday so special?
Thanksgiving has been around for as long as anyone can remember and it seems like everyone cherishes it since it is a time of appreciation and gratitude, and a time to spend with family and friends. Almost everyone that gets asked about Thanksgiving likes the holiday since it is a holiday that was made to come together despite everyone’s differences.
Thanksgiving was founded in 1789, and many years later Cathedral High School was founded, and both are about coming together and being a community. Students took a survey on the many options to choose from during a Thanksgiving meal. One area to look at was what to drink for Thanksgiving dinner. Out of four options to choose from, 55% of people choose apple cider for their usual drink. 50% of Cathedral prefer turkey for their main course.
Freshman Molly Campbell said, “I really like turkey because of the way my grandma makes it and we have a tradition every year where my uncle cuts it.” For Thanksgiving sides 46% choose mashed potatoes. Thanksgiving desserts got a lot of different responses but most of them were centered around a type of pie, and 48% of those surveyed chose pumpkin pie.
History teacher Allison Carter said, “My favorite food is mashed potatoes because you can eat them with anything on your plate, and apple pie!”
The last poll looked at Thanksgiving food in general and if they prefer it over an everyday normal meal. Results were mixed, but 40% enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Classes will be on break for 3 days in order to eat every type of food that is out there. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
