Choirs Begin Their Annual Fundraising
Cathedral choirs sell trash bags to raise money for their yearly competition trips.
The school’s choir students are selling trash bags to raise money for their tour funds, which cover competition fees and travel expenses. These funds will pay for their upcoming trip to Chicago, which will occur in March of 2023. During this trip, they will have the opportunity to compete for Grand Champion in nationals.
This is only one of the many fundraising projects that the choirs undertake. Director of Choirs Mrs. Marian Bender said, “We sell blondies cookies in November and have a dine-in night at a restaurant with the proceeds going to the choir. We also have breakfast with Santa this year on Saturday, December 10.” The choirs will host other events throughout the course of the year to collect funds as well, such as a used-electronics drive and ad campaign.
Mrs. Bender said, “Trash bags are useful to have in general, but we have very large ones that are great for leaves, (which is perfect for this time of year).” Each roll of bags costs 13 dollars, and there are a wide variety of colors and styles available, including blue, green, pink, red holiday-themed and orange jack o’lantern-themed.
On a final note, Mrs. Bender said, “We now have two show choirs, in addition to a huge concert choir and Irish Guys With Ties, which is very expensive. We want to make sure that every single student goes on these (competition) trips. These donations go to those students who can’t afford them.”
To donate, contact a choir student and order your roll with a check made out to the Cathedral choir program. The bags will be delivered on the week of October 10.
Make sure to place your orders soon! This sale ends on October 3.
