Band to participate in annual Trivia Night
Plans are in the works for at least some musicians to perform
The band will take part in Trivia Night, which is an annual fundraiser event that the school hosts each year, on April 23. Due to coronavirus, many of the events that the band usually partakes in have been canceled, including the St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Indianapolis.
Planning for how the event is still ongoing. “We are not sure if the whole band will be playing or not because it is still up for discussion,” said Mrs. Kathy McCullough, the director of bands. If the entire band does not play at the event, there may still be an opportunity for some students to perform. “It is possible that the drum line will play,” said McCullough.
Not only have there been limitations to events at which the band has been able to perform, but there have also been a reduced number of fundraiser events as well. “We did do a Beef House Restaurant rolls, apple butter and strawberry jam fundraiser back in November and received raffle ticket profits from the school, too, but that would be it for this year,” McCullough said.
This will be the first time that the band will participate in Trivia Night. McCullough said, “Usually the band does an event called Band Bingo where we have a silent auction, games, Bingo and use that as our fundraiser.” This year that event was cancelled due to coronavirus, and the band was instead offered to partner with the development office for Trivia Night. “We were very grateful,” she said.
Funds raised at events such as Trivia Night help to cover fees and expenses the band incurs during the school year. “Profit goes into all the students’ escrow accounts and it can be used to pay for band fees, instrument rental, trips band camp or any other band-related fees throughout the year,” McCullough said.
