Irish Guys with Ties perform at an outdoor concert last fall in Carmel.

The Irish Guys with Ties singers continue to prepare for upcoming performances, something that director of choirs Ms. Marian Bender looks forward to as she acclaims the determination and excitement that the students involved share for singing.

The a cappella pop group, as Bender calls it, is rehearsing for a spring concert, which will take place, as Bender said, “right down the road from Cathedral” at the Arts for Lawrence Theater at The Fort. “The group is singing a song called ‘Connected’ and a familiar TikTok sea shanty, the ‘Wellean,’” Bender wrote in an email. “They always have a few surprises up their sleeves.”

Bender explained that in order to make sure all parents can enjoy this spring concert, it will be performed two times, May 13 and May 14. The latter performance, on a Friday, will also pay tribute to the group’s 19 seniors, according to Bender.

While the concert is expected to be entertaining, a lot of the fun takes place in the preparation. “Irish Guys with Ties rehearsals are a blast,” Bender wrote. “The guys in the group keep me on my toes and make me laugh. It’s kind of like a big party every week.”

She also explained that the effort the group’s members put into it, along with their fun and positive attitude, is what makes Irish Guys with Ties so special. “I love that the guys enjoy every minute and that because it isn’t a class, it’s a bit more laid back,” Bender wrote.

Bender wanted to extend an invitation to any other young men on the Hill who might want to join the group, asking them to send her an email at [email protected] if they are interested. “Rehearsals are an hour and donuts are involved,” Bender wrote. Until the mid-May concert, the Irish Guys with Ties will continue to do what they do best, sing and have great fun while doing it. “It’s just an all-around good time,” Bender said.
