Six members of the marching band earned top honors in the annual state music contest.

Six members of the Pride of the Irish marching band have earned a gold medal in Level 1 in the annual solo and ensemble contest of the Indiana State School Music Association.

Those musicians include senior Katie Timble, flute; senior Gabe Tice, alto sax; senior Andrew Marcou, snare drum; junior Nick Rodecap, tenor sax; junior Amelia DeSanto, flute; and sophomore Andrew Michael, snare drum.

Band director Mrs. Kathy McCullough said a gold medal is the equivalent of an individual state award. “You can say you are one of the best in state on a flute solo or snare drums (or your particular instrument),” she wrote in an email. McCullough also noted that this year’s auditions and judging were all virtual.
