The newest club has come to the Hill. The Success Club was founded in 2025 in order to create a community where students learn skills to help them live with excellence and pursue God in all they do. The club was founded by Freshman Jonathan King, with the sponsorship of Religion Teacher Cece Kasberg ‘83 and History Teacher John Wooden.
Prior to his arrival on the Hill, King read “How To Be A High School Superstar” which led to his idea to begin a new organization. He discussed the idea with his parents and a counselor, who collectively thought it was unique and interesting. He then inquired with members of the Student Innovation Team who welcomed the idea and allowed him to find an educator or two to sponsor the club.
Soon after, Wooden and Kasberg became the moderators/sponsors. Kasberg said, “When I first heard about the Success Club, I was very intrigued. I didn’t know much about the founder, Jonathan King, but over time I’ve found him to be an incredible individual. The idea of getting together as high schoolers and talking about the real meaning of success, not just academically but spiritually as well is just an awesome idea.”

King was able to set up a booth for the Activities Fair, host a call-out meeting, and things were up and running.
The Success Club has been focusing on the book ‘How to be a High School Superstar’, which focuses on underscheduling and aiming at unique achievements.
King said, “When choosing the curriculum for Success Club lessons, I try to see what’s beneficial for the people in the club, what time of year it is. For example, when it was the week before finals, we talked about how to build good study habits and go into finals with a successful mindset.”
The club is currently seeking to grow and provide an impact for students at Cathedral by “helping every student who is striving to be the best they can be”. Until the conclusion of this school year, there will be special guest speakers and a party to celebrate the achievements of students in May. All students are welcome to attend.
Wooden said, “What I love seeing about the Success Club is the passion for kingdom success over worldly success. Students pursue worldly success (making the most money, getting jobs, etc.) and there’s a place for that but we emphasize the power of kingdom success, which is succeeding in drawing closer to God.”
Outside of Success Club, Jonathan King serves as a Class Officer, a member of the Student Life Advisory Council, an academic scholarship holder and a member of the freshman volleyball team. Through his ambitions and goals, King is among the many students across Cathedral who seek to make an impact long past their graduation date.
In the end, the vision for the Success Club is to be a thriving Christ-centered community that empowers students to grow in their skills and achieve excellence/success for the glory of God.
King said, “When looking at the future of the Success Club, I envision growing the club to impact more people and foster a community where students strive to be the best they can be. I want to ensure that I’m embodying Cathedral’s Holy Cross Core Values as that’s essential to our entire school community.”
