For the Lady Irish Wrestling, so much history has been made in its first season. Four-time state champion, Kendall Moe is responsible for the many accomplishments of the Lady Irish Wrestling during the inaugural season.
As a senior transferring from Hamilton Heights High School to Cathedral, Kendall Moe was aware of the absence of a girls wrestling team. Regardless of this drawback, Moe decided to continue with her decision. Upon her first couple of months at Cathedral High School, Moe had a hard, but not difficult time juggling her way through her new environment.
Moe said, “It was not as hard as one would expect because it felt easy making friends here at Cathedral. Here at Cathedral, there’s so much support and so much love, and it’s like a big family.”
Before Moe had begun her journey on the Hill, girls wrestling was not available to the young women at Cathedral. With the advocacy from the boy wrestlers and other young women interested in wrestling, the Lady Irish Wrestling team flourished. In its first season ever, the Lady Irish have made incredible progress in their own journey and have most importantly made so much history.

Throughout this year’s first season, Moe had her mind set on earning herself the state title. Throughout the weeks, her everyday routine consisted of weights, school, and practices. Moe would wake up before school began to lift weights, then she would finish a school day and head off to her practices after school. On the weekends, Moe would wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning to prepare herself for a tournament.
Although this routine is very tiresome on herself, Moe has continued to show the world that she is committed to winning. With her experience of ten years in the ring, Moe certainly knows the many ups and downs that come with being a part of such a demanding sport.
Moe said, “Everyone knows wrestling is a way of life. With wrestling, you learn to be resilient and hard working and show up on time and you have to have a good work ethic.”
In prior years, Moe had been in a position where she found it hard to decide whether or not she wanted to continue her career as a wrestler. Ultimately, she decided that she was not going to give up on herself and with the convincing help of her father and supportive teammates, Moe found herself sticking to the sport.
The dedication she puts into the sport has certainly paid off, as she has won a state title every year since her freshman year of high school. Beginning at Hamilton Heights and ending with Cathedral High School, Moe’s journey thus far has led her to success.
The state title she earned this year felt different to her than the other titles have. The feeling stems from proudly wearing “Irish” across her chest, making history at her new school, and enjoying her final high school season.
Moe said, “It’s been really meaningful to me. I hope other people can look up to that as I’ve looked up to others in the past.”
