In the month of January, Cathedral High School celebrates the importance and fun of Catholics Schools Week. With this comes a week of high-engagement activities to rile up students for the fun that is to come as Catholics School’s Week takes place.
On January 29th, the Thursday of Catholics Schools Week, Cathedral held an extra special Mass. This Mass recognized the Holy Cross Priests, brothers, and Novices in addition to the many Cathedral students who were recognized for their intent to receive the Sacrament of Initiation.
More students were also recognized for their complete preparation for receiving the communion through the Catholic Church. To top off this extremely special Mass, Cathedral celebrated 50 years of Women at Cathedral by gathering all the women at the end of the all-school Mass for a photo to celebration the occasion.

Father Geoff Mooney said, “We are never alone in Catholic schools, and all of us work together to build the Kingdom of God by using our minds and hearts to glorify him. Catholic Schools Week reminds us how our Catholic education ultimately prepares us for heaven.”
Friday was the most engaging day for the student body during Faithfest because everyone attends an assembly containing a variety of activities including a ping pong tournament known as The Golden Paddle, car karaoke, a latin dance performed by the senior class and their dancing partners, and a lip sync battle between each grade. With each of these activities, students and their grade are able to gather together and engage their spirit, ideas, and most importantly involvement within their student body.
Senior Lila Edwards took part in the Latin Dance and said, “I was so glad to work together with my senior cheerleaders to compose the Latin dance routine. It reflected the cheerleaders’ school spirit as we put our hearts into it and made it from scratch a week before the performance.”
This assembly holds a lot of meaning that goes deeper than just some rivalry within the student body. Looking into that deeper feeling, Father Geoff said, “An assembly like Faithfest highlights our core values of family and divine providence. We come together as a community—perhaps with some friendly competition—to celebrate the fact that God guides our lives, empowers our spirits, and provides the grace we need to grow in holiness each day. And how blessed we are that this grace flows through a Catholic school where we are loved.”
