A couple of years ago, English educator Irene Wilson had a student, now current senior Andrea Aluaiza, in her J-Term. After getting to know her, whether it was through J-term or various school activities, they both realized they had something in common: their faith. Andrea went up to Wilson and discussed that she felt like she was missing something and needed more of an opportunity to grow in her faith.
After hearing Senior Andrea Aluaiza’s story and her personal desire to grow in her faith, Wilson listened as she proposed the idea of starting a women’s Bible Study Club. Wilson, without a doubt, agreed to help her accomplish this goal. She would become the moderator of the club and help Andrea put together and bring her idea to life here on the Hill.
To Wilson, her faith is something that she cherishes, she said, “A big thing for me is that I want to live by example.” Over the summer, she realized that Cathedral needed more opportunities for women’s ministry. While Cathedral certainly offers plenty of opportunities for every student, Wilson wanted something special specifically for the girls on Cathedral’s campus.
Wilson said, “I see a lot of our girls struggling and they are going through tough times, there are difficult things happening involving relationships and personal struggles.” By having this Bible Study Club, there will be a safe environment for girls to allow themselves to debrief and find a safe space where they know and feel they can rely on for support and guidance.
If this club goes as planned and enough girls join, there may be a new opportunity to grow in faith. Wilson is working on planning a fun, small two-day retreat hopefully by the spring of 2026. However, Wilson said, “This is still very much in the planning stage to try and get this off the ground because we haven’t had something like that before.”
By taking on this role as a moderator, Wilson hopes to share the importance of her faith with others around school. She wants students to see that she truly cares about her faith and hopes to provide them with a safe space where they know they are always welcome.
For any girls who feel called, the first gathering will be on Thursday, December 11, 2025 in room 2316 from 8:00-8:30 a.m.
