Cathedral had a great regular season, but they now look to win a state championship, which would start with defeating New Palestine this Friday.
Cathedral football had yet again another successful, winning season going 6-3. They beat great programs like Center Grove, Ben Davis, and Warren Central this season. They’ve battled various amounts of injuries, but they have mastered the next man up mentality and have been able to still find success no matter who’s on the field. The depth for the Irish is as good or better than anybody in the state of Indiana. Senior Ryan Freije has played a humongous role for the Irish defense and special teams.
Freije ‘26 said, “We have had a very good season so far going 6-3, we have been a tight group and it has helped us to be successful.”
Cathedral football lives success, they have it year in and year out and that is the Cathedral expectation. However, no matter the success they’ve had this season, this Friday will determine it all.
The top two 5A football teams will go battle for a sectional championship. Cathedral and New Palestine. These two schools have never seemed to get along, especially in sports, and most especially in football. All eyes in the state are set on this game, as the winner will move onto regionals, and be as confident as ever to make it to Lucas Oil Stadium and play in a state championship.
Cathedral knows what it takes to beat really good and respected programs. They do it year in and year out, no matter if they’re underdogs or not. This test against New Palestine will truly tell it all.
Cathedral will prepare more than enough for this game. New Palestine is ranked number one in 5A, and Cathedral is ranked number two. Preparation for games like this feels like preparation for the Super Bowl, because that’s how much it truly means to Cathedral, in everything we do, we strive for excellence. Cathedral football will do everything they can to win this game, because they’re eyes are set on nothing but Lucas Oil Stadium and winning a state championship.
“We will have a normal week of practice. We know how big of a game this is, we need to have a locked in week at practice,” said Freije.
