Every year, Cathedral hosts a reunion for graduates in 5-year increments. This year, Cathedral welcomed all classes ending in 4 or 9 back to the Hill on Saturday, September 21. Former students who graduated in 2019 all the way back to those who graduated in 1954 attended the event to see old friends and visit the setting of their high school memories (or for some, its new location).
Several Cathedral teachers showed up to the Grand Reunion as well, including Dean of Students and member of the Student Innovation Team Mr. Ed Freije ‘99 and also Latin teacher Mr. John Streiff ‘09 attended.
Director of Lifelong Connections Mrs. Jean Smith ‘97 said,“The Grand Reunion is . . . a chance for [alumni] to celebrate their class and get back together here on campus.”
The evening began with an intimate Mass at 4:45 in the chapel led by Fr. Jomy. After Mass, all guests were escorted to the courtyard and the Student Life Center (SLC), where drinks were served and a buffet dinner opened at 5:30.
Alumni were given the opportunity to take tours led by members of the National Honor Society and learn about new and continuing traditions on the Hill and view recent additions to the campus, such as the Innovation Center and Johnny Mac’s Coffeehouse.
After the tours ended at 7:00, alumni spent the remaining two hours of the event eating, drinking, listening to music, and catching up with former classmates.
According to Mrs. Smith, “The significance [of the Grand Reunion], I would say, is that it is an annual opportunity to be intentional about kindling lifelong connections and getting back on campus.”
