After the Irish got a win over Penn 35-21, they look to defeat Chatard High School this week. The Irish are preparing strenuously for the rival game on Friday and are looking or a huge crowd to cheer them on to win the game against the Trjoans.

The fans and players love this game due to the long going rivalry between the Irish and Trojans.
Most would say this is the game they look forward to playing and watching the most in the football season. This is not only an exciting game but it’s more than just winning, it’s about the tradition and, of course the students love the bragging rights.

We spoke to Senior tight end Brennan Wooton who is committed to division one school Western Michigan University. Wooton said, “Jaron Tibbs and Danny O’Neil coming off a great game against Penn is going to hopefully replicate that against Chatard. With all the weapons the Irish have it should be a no brainer that we defeat the Trojans”. Clearly expectations are high but very attainable for the fighting Irish.

Captains Brennan Wooton (4), Alex Mellow (26), Kendrick Gilbert (99), and Jaron Tibbs (13) walk out to the middle of the field for the coin toss.

Last year the Irish defeated the Trojans 38-14 at Arlington High School. Cathedral hasn’t lost to Chatard since 2018 and hope to keep the streak alive for a fourth year in a row.

Wooton also said “We can’t let the Irish beat the Irish, we’ve gotta come out swinging and we are gonna have a great week and beat that team on 56th street”. Cathedral players carry their Irish pride on and off the field, and hope the Cathedral faithful show up to cheer them on with the same pride. The Irish play on Friday Sept. 9 at Chatard High school.
