The men’s varsity basketball team seeks its fourth straight City title when it plays Crispus Attucks at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 at Arsenal Tech.

The Irish, under the direction of Head Coach Mr. Jason Delaney, go into the game as the tournament’s second seed with a 12-2 record and key wins during the season over defending Class 4A State champion Carmel as well as Marion and Bishop Chatard, a 10-point win in the City tournament semifinals on Jan. 25.

About Attucks, the Number-1 seed, Delaney said, “We have challenged our guys to be a part of history and certify their legacy. There have only been two teams who have won four or more City championships, the Scott Hicks-led Cathedral team from about 10 years ago and the team (that) won five straight from 1929 to 1933 was Arsenal Tech.

“These are two legendary teams and to enter into the conversation with those teams would be huge for us. Attucks is the Number-1 seed and it will be a very tough game.” Delaney noted that Attucks returns several key players from last year’s team.

Delaney said, “We have battled a lot of injuries and missing players recently, but we are finally starting to get some of them back, like Cam Jordan, Jaxon Edwards and Vincent Brady. Attucks is led by Sincere McMahon, and he’s going to get his, so we need to find a way to slow him down tonight. They are extremely quick and love to attack the paint; we need to keep everything wide and execute our offensive sets better than we did Saturday night against Chatard.”

The coach concluded, “Attucks has now joined our Sectional and is ranked in the Top 10 in the state and we are right there with them, so tonight is going to be a really good battle between two really good teams.”
