The varsity football team, in action earlier in the season during its 59-0 Homecoming win over Jeffersonville, will open Sectional tournament play on Nov. 1.

The varsity football team will begin what it hopes will be its march to yet another State championship, and its 23rd Sectional title in school history, on Nov. 1, when the Irish take on Terre Haute South (5-3) in the Class 5A Sectional 13 tournament.

The Irish drew a bye into the semifinal round of the Sectional. In the Sectional first round game, Plainfield will play Decatur Central. In the other Sectional semifinal, Terre Haute North will take on the Plainfield-Decatur winner.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association conducted the draw for the football tournament on Oct. 13. The Irish (6-2) defeated Brebeuf Jesuit 21-7 on Oct. 11 and look to end the regular season with a win over Center Grove on Oct. 18 at Tech. That game against the Trojans kicks off at 7 p.m.

In an email, Head Coach Mr. Bill Peebles wrote, “The draw was good for us. After the travel schedule and the difficulty of our (regular season) schedule, it will be good for our players to have a bye. We will be playing at home during Week 1 (of the playoffs) as well.”
