The men’s golf team warms up for the first hole at last year’s State Finals in Carmel.

Mr. Patrick Fagan will lead the golf team in his seventh season as head coach, his 11th being a part of the coaching staff.

He is joined by Mr. Scott Barla, Mr. Alex Dickman ’11, Mr. Mike Miller and Mr. Rick Shadiow.

Last season the men finished sixth at the State Finals in Carmel. According to Fagan, the “highlights of last season was winning the Regional for the first time since 2009. Also, having Austin Vukovits become the first Cathedral student to be all-State three times in golf was a major event.”

Senior Luke Mattingly is the leader of the team and will play collegiate golf at Marian University next fall. Juniors David Cooke and Braden Estes are experienced as well as they have made two trips to the State Finals.

The team may be young, but the depth is strong and could come into play during the State tournament. “While we have a young team, it’s still an experienced team. We have strong players at each grade level and a very deep team, definitely the deepest team since I’ve been coaching here,” said Fagan. “We truly believe that while it will take some of the season to sort things out, we should be peaking when we start the Sectional.”
