When members of next year’s football team look to the sideline, they will see a different head coach there.

The school is taking football coaching applicants through Dec. 15. The first interviews will take place the week of Dec.11. Varsity football Head Coach Mr. Rick Streiff announced on Nov. 21 that he was retiring.

Streiff led Cathedral to 10 State championships in two tenures as the Irish coach and compiled an impressive 221-77 record in 23 seasons.

Athletics Director Mr. Doug Seagrave has been part of hiring new coaches before. “We will have a committee with myself, (Assistant Athletics Director Mr. Terry) Fox and several other individuals from the school,” he said.

“The candidate or candidates chosen will have a final interview with (Principal Mr. Dave) Worland and I,” he said. The process will have a quick turnaround, too. “We would like to have it announced before Christmas, but it’s dependent on who’s applying and getting it done the right way. We would certainly like to have someone by when we come back in January,” he said.
