Irish to take on South for Regional title

Senior Jackson Barrow and junior Johnny Leffel go high and low to make a defensive stop during the Sectional game against Roncalli.

The varsity football team will play Bloomington South in Bloomington at 7 p.m. on Nov. 10 for the Class 5A Regional title.

Football Head Coach Mr. Rick Streiff wrote in an email, “We probably overall are a little bit bigger than they are.” The coach cited South’s strengths as its position players. Streiff did say that he expected his team might be slightly stronger on the line than South.

Fans should anticipate a high scoring offensive game, Streiff suggested. After losing to Columbus North 23-0 on Oct. 6,  South enters the Regional title contest on a four-game win streak, with victories over Perry Meridian (21-7), Whiteland (42-37), Bloomington North (34-6) and Martinsville (56-21).

Asked what Irish fans should look for during the game: Bloomington South’s fans’ milk jugs, Streiff wrote.
