Participants gather at the start of one of the sessions at last year’s Christmas baseball camp.

Signups are now open for the annual Cathedral baseball Christmas Camp, which is set for Dec. 27 and Dec. 28.

Baseball Head Coach Mr. Ed Freije ’99 said, “It’s a time of year kids are at home and fresh off Christmas break. They aren’t in season, so it’s good for kids to get out and work on their skills. It’s also a chance for them to interact with other kids their age and just play some baseball.”

The camp showcases the Irish coaching staff and players, who went undefeated in the regular season and won the Class 4A State championship at Victory Field in June. “Members of our staff and current players will be in attendance and instructing the campers,” Freije said.

Freije emphasized the importance of a leadership culture the baseball club influences. “The (high school) players are great role models for the kids. Constant feedback from sports camps here is that the kids’ interaction with the high schoolers is a highlight. Working with and being coached by players they watch at our games is nice.

“As a coach, I truly appreciate our players and their contributions. It’s a great way for our players to learn patience and to work with those kids,” Freije said.

The camp’s price of $65 includes a $10 discount for having enrolled siblings.
