Junior Keya Patton and her teammates will play for a new coach next year.

Mrs. Reggen Melson has been hired as the girls’ varsity basketball coach, according to an April 3 emailed statement by Athletics Director Mr. Doug Seagrave.

Melson served as the head coach at Class 3A Crispus Attucks this past year and led the Tigers to a 20-6 record and a Regional runner-up finish, where her team lost to Danville 62-56 in the title game.

Accoriding to Seagrave, “Reggen was an outstanding player at Arsenal Tech High School and Wright State University. She is a member of the Tech High School Hall of Fame and the Wright State Wall of Fame.”

Coach Melson has a BA in social work from Wright State. She has coached at both the collegiate and high school levels, according to Segrave’s statement.

Her husband, Mr. Kevin Melson, was also a standout player at Wright State. Together, they run Beyond Your Limits, a basketball and life skills training company located in the Little Flower neighborhood on the east side of Indianapolis.

Coach Melson replaced the former girls’ varsity basketball coach Mr. Ed Freije ‘99, who became the varsity baseball head coach earlier this school year.
