Spring sports update: Women’s tennis

The women’s tennis team is 9-1 as of May 12 and are ranked 10th in the state.

The team defeated University 5-0 on April 25 before losing their first match of the season to Carmel on April 26, 5-0. On May 2, they picked up a win against Roncalli, 5-0, and another on May 4, as they defeated Brebeuf Jesuit 3-2. The team competed at the Penn Invitational on May 14, beating Fort Wayne Carroll, Munster and Penn on their way to winning the invitational as a whole. They defeated Center Grove and Zionsville on May 9 and May 11 respectively. 

The team is led by sophomores Izzy Carrillo and Tess Wojtalik as the Number-1 and Number-3 singles as well as senior Sara Wojtalik at Number-3 singles. The duo of freshman Izzy Ireland and senior Grace Foster play Number-1 doubles and sophomore Riley Kavanaugh and junior Ava Russell compete at Number-2 doubles. 

The team will compete in the Sectional at Lawerence North. On May 19 at 4:30 p.m., the team will play the winner of the Herron vs. Bishop Chatard match. The Sectional championship will be played May 20 at 4:30 p.m.

The team had its Senior Night on May 12 against Westfield. The team’s 13 seniors were recognized at 4:30 p.m. on the Hill.
