The varsity softball team surrounds freshman Maddie Liter after she hit her second home run of the game against Beech Grove.

The softball team is off to a 5-3 start to begin their season. The team dropped their first two games to Terre Haute South and Danville before going 4-1 in their last five games. This hot streak has included a 5-2 win over a highly ranked West Lafayette Harrison team on April 5 as well as back-to-back 12-0 wins over Lafayette Central Catholic and Speedway on April 11 and April 12.

The team is led by underclassmen, as freshmen Maddie Liter and Anna Moore lead the team in batting average. Liter also leads the team with 11 RBI, and she has hit two home runs and two doubles so far. On the mound, sophomore Jade Slone has been dominant. She holds a 4-2 record and has struck out 55 batters in 38.2 innings.

Upcoming: The team will play in the Carmel Invitational on April 22 and April 23 at the Cherry Tree Complex in Carmel. They will face Pendleton Heights on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. and will play two games at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m on Saturday against Lake Central and Franklin Central.

From Assistant Coach Mrs. Linda Bamrick: “These young ladies are an absolute pleasure to coach. They have a strong work ethic, are very respectful and unselfish. They genuinely care for and about each other. What great team chemistry.”
