Megaphone co-editor named Ernie Pyle Scholar
Napier will study at Indiana University’s Media School
Each year, the Media School at Indiana University in Bloomington chooses a select group of no more than 16 incoming freshmen from across the nation as Ernie Pyle Scholars.
This year, one of those students is a Cathedral High School senior.
Nicolas Napier will begin his experience at Ernie Pyle Scholars next August at IU. As a direct admit journalism major, he will take classes with his fellow scholars, be assigned a professor of practice to guide him through his undergraduate studies, participate in a media tour of Chicago, take part in seminars and programs at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida and spend the summer between his junior and senior years studying British media in London.
Napier is wrapping up his second year as a member of the Megaphone newspaper at Cathedral. During his senior year, he served as co-editor-in-chief, supervising a staff of 17 students who produced a 16- to 24-page paper every three to four weeks and added content to newspaper website every school day.
Napier is the fifth Megaphone staff member in the last six years to be named an Ernie Pyle Scholar. Past recipients include Annie Browning ’15, Kara Williams ’16 and Emerson Wolff ’16 and Sara Kress ’18.
