Swimming and diving
The swimming and diving team, coached by Ms. Ashley Hill, has started their season.

Seniors Kaylor Jasiak, Isabella Sweeney, Emily Timberman and Lauryn Woods; juniors Abygail Dravis, Lindsey Huntzinger, Bailey Johnson and Erika Weed; sophomores Samantha Klug and Elle Lewis; and freshmen Sally Bradshaw, Grace Bragg, Sandra Granados and Charlotte Thompson are among the team’s to performers so far this year.
The men’s team is led by seniors Sam Vander Missen, Justin Pugh and Tim Sullivan; juniors Jake Carlson, Michael Carnes and Nate Hillenburg; and sophomore Max Timberman, who look to win back the City championship and move up in their Sectional finish. Major contributions also are expected from seniors Emmett Williams and Jair Zenil; sophomores Nolan Clark and Quinn Sweeney and freshmen Ben Dravis, Ayden Fahey and Andrew Michael.
Men’s basketball
The basketball team opened its season wins over Howe and Brebeuf Jesuit. Despite missing four major pieces due to injury or transfers for the varsity team, they will continue to play hard. “This is giving many other guys a chance to show their skills and impress me and the other coaches, which is good to see to see how deep of a team we have for later in the season,” said Head Coach Mr. Jason Delaney.
The basketball team will travel to Richmond for the Bob Wettig Tournament over Christmas break and has won the tournament the past two years. The tournament will include ranked teams such as Bloomington South and Zionsville.
Delaney said, “We are excited about this group of young men because they play extremely hard and overall it is a young group, which bodes well for the team years and years to come. This senior group has been a great core of success in their time here at Cathedral.”
The Irish play Warren Central in the Welch Activity Center on Dec. 13, with the junior varsity tipping off at 6 p.m. and the varsity following at 7:30.
Women’s basketball
The women’s basketball team has had a solid start to the season seeing much success and drawing a large crowd to the Bishop Chatard game, an overtime loss. Before the game against the Trojans, the Irish defeated the Roncalli varsity.
Head Coach Mrs. Lisa Finn said, “The team is playing hard and giving a lot of effort and I have seen a positive shift in the team and can see them gaining confidence, but there are also little things we need to continue to work on such as limiting turnovers, finishing around the basket, blocking out and rebounding. The more we do those little things and tighten them up, the better we will be in the long run.”
Upcoming games for the varsity include a trip to Lafayette on Dec. 14 to take on Central Catholic, with an afternoon tip time for the varsity of 1:30 p.m.
