Spring sports preview: Women’s track and field
Head Coach Mr. Mark Doctor has coached the women’s track and field team for 14 years, six years as an assistant, and now returns for his eighth season as the head coach.
He is assisted by Mr. Erik Autojay ’03, Mr. Josiah Daniels, Mr. Brian Gross, Mrs. Erin Klott, Mr. Joe Sander ’10, Mr. Justun Sharp and Mr. Dennis Thomas.
Last season’s major accomplishments include City runner-up and the qualification of one individual and one relay team to the State meet. A school record was set in the 4 x 100-meter relay.
Doctor is optimistic for the season because of the large number of returning varsity members. He said, “We have nearly everyone back from last year’s team, including State qualifiers senior Kennedy Miller, junior My’jah Mintze, sophomores Chloe Miller, Alexis Parchman and Kaylah Pitts, as well as defending City and Sectional high jump champ junior Nyah Conway. We also have several athletes who were close to qualifying, as well as some promising new freshmen.
“We should have the strength to compete for wins in most of the individual events, as well as a couple of relays. Our overall numbers are down this year, and lack of depth may hurt our ability to put up good team scores in some meets,” said Doctor.
