Junior/senior intramural games set for Jan. 26
Basketball games to be played in the WAC
In addition to a reputation as an academically prestigious school, Cathedral carries a tradition of strong athletic competition and accomplishments. Outside of the IHSAA teams, Cathedral also provides opportunities for students who do not participate in those sports to enjoy friendly competition with their peers.
In a state that holds basketball in such high esteem, it is natural that a place with such school spirit should maintain a tradition of annual intramural basketball tournaments. The first two divisions, the co-ed and freshman/sophomore teams, recently had tournaments over the weekend of Jan. 19 and Jan. 20.
The final division of the tournament, the junior and senior teams, is scheduled for Jan. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Welch Activity Center. It will be a double-elimination tournament hosted and refereed by physical education and health teacher Mrs. Linda Bamrick, and the two teams that make the championship will get to play in front of the entire school during the Winterfest Assembly on Feb. 1.
Teams have already been finalized and captains have been elected, so make sure to offer your peers support before they compete. The team captains are senior Stu Gomez, senior Malcom Goggans, senior Mitchell Bertrand, senior Colin Prince, junior Mark Saba, junior Kyle Cortner and junior Aydan Alerding.
As of Jan. 25, specific brackets for the Jan. 26 games had not been determined.
