Men’s basketball to open season Nov. 20
Coach Delaney says team is ‘a determined group’
Preparing to start the season, the men’s basketball team awaits the rematch of last year’s nail-biting, double-overtime game against Howe.
Senior Ross Welch, who is expected to start at forward, said the team’s practices have focused on man-to-man defense and up tempo playing in the half court.
The season opening game will be played in the Welch Activity Center on Nov. 20, with the junior varsity tipping off at 6 p.m. and the varsity following at 7:30. Welch said, “The biggest stressor for Coach (Mr. Jason) Delaney during practices is us communicating, because last year that was kind of a problem since we were not a very talkative team, so we are still trying to find leadership.”
According to information Delaney supplied to The Indianapolis Star and that he released to a Megaphone reporter, other starters for the varsity will include senior Armaan Franklin, senior James Franklin, senior Justin Hensley and freshman Tayshawn Comer.
Delaney said, “We return a veteran group of players mixed with some young talent. These guys are a determined group looking for historical results.”
Last year, the varsity finished 19-5. Delaney’s overall record as a varsity coach is 212-119, with 34 of wins coming at Cathedral.
