The men’s basketball team has drawn Lawrence North as its opponent in the first round of the IHSAA Class 4A basketball Sectional, with the game scheduled for Feb. 27 at Warren Central. The Irish lost to LN 58-52 during the regular season and hope to avenge that defeat during tournament play.

In an email, Head Coach Mr. Jason Delaney reacted to the draw. He said the team gathered to watch the pairings and is not surprised to be facing Lawrence North right away. About the loss to LN, Delaney wrote, “It was a highly contested game back on Jan. 3, and (the Sectional) will be about which team can execute their game plan more effectively. Anything worth obtaining in life has to be earned and that is what we must do.”

The complete Warren Central Sectional draw:

Game 1, Feb. 27: Lawrence North vs. Cathedral

Game 2, Feb. 27: Warren Central vs. Arsenal Tech

Game 3, March 2: Lawrence Central vs. Cathedral/Lawrence North winner

Game 4, March 2: North Central vs. Warren/Tech winner

The Warren Central Sectional may be the most competitive in the state, with the host team going into the final week of regular season play ranked Number 1 and undefeated and the Irish also ranked in the Top 10. Based on the draw, those two teams would not play each other until the Sectional championship on March 3.
