Face Off: Savannah Smiles are best

A tradition that is more than 100 years old is returning to Indianapolis. Every Girl Scout cookie selling season, one questions seems to pop up: which cookie is the best. I am here to tell you, it is the bite-size, powdered-sugar-covered, lemon treat known as the Savannah Smile.

Introduced in 2012, Savannah Smiles are not the classic cookie many remember from their childhoods. However, just because they have not been around as long as some of the other offerings from the Girl Scouts, does not mean Savannah Smiles should be considered unworthy of someone’s time. In fact, releasing Savannah Smiles amongst a bombardment of chocolate with mint, chocolate with peanut butter and chocolate with coconut, shows how the Girl Scouts listens to it’s customers. Not everyone is a chocoholic.

Some decide against Savannah Smiles simply because they are scared of lemon flavor. But if anyone has perfected the balance of tart lemon with sweet sugar, it’s the Girl Scouts. Sometimes, lemon-flavored treats can be really sour or be so sweet it’s hard to find where the sugar stops and the lemon begins. With Savannah Smiles, the flavor is balanced perfectly.

Having gone door to door and selling to neighbors, friends and random strangers, I can confidently say the opinion that chocolate cookies are the best is changing.

Even though Savannah Smiles are not on the list of the most popular Girl Scout cookies, take a chance and experience a new and delightful cookie with lots of promise. Sometimes, it pays to not follow the crowd and try something new.

Take it from a former Girl Scout: Savannah Smiles are the way to go.
