The Indiana High School Athletic Association tweeted this image from Lucas Oil Stadium, the site of the football State Finals Nov. 24 and Nov. 25.

While the Cathedral football team didn’t quite make it to the State Finals over Thanksgiving weekend, one of the school’s students did. Senior Myra Miller was there as a member of the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee.

One of her roles  is to work the State championships. Miller said, “For all three games, I passed out programs for roughly the first quarter of the game. After, I walked around to suites making sure the school, teams or people in the suite had everything they needed. If I had down time, I would go to the press box or field box and watch the game.

“And then when the game was over I got to assist with awards. I passed out the medal boxes to the team members at the end of the games. The second game (the 3A title contest), Special Olympic athletes were there, and I got to hang out with them the majority of the game, which was a blast because I love talking and hanging out with the athletes.”

The teams that played were 1A, Pioneer and Eastern Greene; 3A, Brebeuf Jesuit and Evansville Memorial; and 5A, Kokomo and Columbus East.

Miller was at Lucas Oil Stadium from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Nov. 24.

She said she enjoys the Advisory Committee work, especially being able to attend State championship events. Miller said, “My favorite part is getting to help (at State) because I get to see behind the scenes at what goes into putting on a championship, and I get to participate in handing the awards to the athletes which is an amazing opportunity.

“Also, I love the new people I get to meet at the championships and working alongside my friends on the committee.”
