Running back junior Chon’Dre Bissell (26) gains yardage in the 28-23 Sectional victory over Roncalli after taking the handoff from quarterback sophomore Roman Purcell (4). The Irish take on Decatur Central Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at Arsenal Tech for the Sectional championship.

The football team will take the field on Nov. 3 against Decatur Central for the Class 5A Sectional championship. And with evenly matched talent on both sides, it promises to be an exciting game, perhaps even more exciting than the 28-23 Sectional opener victory over Roncalli.

With Decatur having skilled players at key positions such as quarterback, wide receiver, running back and defensive back, as well as a regular season win over Roncalli, the Irish opponent matches up well with skilled players at similar positions.

During an interview in the coach’s office in the Loretto basement two days prior to the game, Head Coach Mr. Rick Streiff said, “I am hoping that we are a little bit better in our offensive and defensive lines, which could very well be the difference in the game.”

With the amount of players on both sides who have the ability to score almost at will, the fans are in for an exciting game with the potential of a lot of scoring. The coach said effective tacking by his team will be one of the keys to a victory. Streiff added, “Another big key to the game is keeping the ball away from them. Have long drives and milk the clock with the philosophy of that if they don’t posses the ball, they can’t score.”

The Sectional championship game at Arsenal Tech is set to kick off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.
