At Cathedral High School, J-term is a chance for students to ease their way into the school year. From January 6 to January 10, students choose a course that interests them, whether it be something they’re passionate about or something out of their comfort zone.
One of the J-term courses offered this year is Adventures in Indy, lead by Cathedral Educators, Ms. Laurie O’Brien and Mrs. Linda Bamrick. These two teachers will take a group of 26 students to explore places with a variety of indoor activities that students may not go to often on their own time. These activities vary from locations like Fishers to Speedway. Not only is this J-term about finding an adrenaline rush each day, it’s also about meeting new people, building good friendships, and facing your fears.
“J-term is a great way for students to explore new things, get out of their comfort zone, and be willing to meet new friends. Some of the activities we do this week include indoor climbing at North Boulder Mass, lunch at the Garage Food Hall, movie at Flix in Carmel, shopping at Clay Terrace, indoor go karting in Speedway, an indoor trampoline, dodgeball, arcade wall climbing, and obstacle courses at Family Adventure Park in Fishers,” said Linda Bamrick.
The J-term courses offered at Cathedral High School allow for students to spend the week trying to make their way back to reality. This reality being that in the following week, they are to go back to their normal everyday school routine. Some J-term courses take their students out of the country, going to places like Costa Rica, or even France. Other courses may take place at school, or even all around Indianapolis.
Adventures in Indy offers students a chance to travel all around Indianapolis, from Carmel to Speedway, doing indoor activities. Some of these activities could possibly be new to students, but that is exactly what this J-term course is all about. Whatever the case is, Cathedral High School hopes to give students the opportunity to have fun and ease their way back to their normal routined lives starting January 13th.
“I hope students have taken the opportunity to get to know people. Hopefully, they will also feel the adrenaline rush of driving fast, overcoming fears of heights while climbing, and most of all, be adventurous and take risks,” said Bamrick.
