The Activities Fair will be taking place on Friday, August 30 in the Welch Activity Center. Freshmen will be attending the fair for the first half of the 55-minute activity period while the sophomores are spoken to by administrators in the Mimms, and the two grades will then switch so that the sophomores can enjoy the Activities Fair as well. Juniors and seniors will be listening to a guest speaker in the auditorium during this time.
The fair is a showcase of all of the clubs and extracurricular activities Cathedral offers. Each activity will have a booth set up with representatives present to showcase their club and answer any questions prospective members may have. All of the stations will also have a list for students to write down their names and email addresses so they can get information about future meetings and callouts.
According to Social Studies teacher and Director of Student Activities Mr. Anthony Ernst, “The purpose of [the Activities Fair] is to build interest for our clubs and activities, showcase what we have here at Cathedral, and give an avenue or pathway for kids to join.”
New clubs will be featured this year as well, including the Filmmakers Club, the Sports Management Club, the Classic Book Club, and more.
Students are encouraged to sign up for everything that piques their interest so that they can hone in on what they really enjoy participating in later in the year. Even if students miss an opportunity to sign up for an activity and wish to join later in the year, they can reach out to the moderator or members and participate in the next club gathering.
Ernst said, “Our hope is that freshmen and sophomores can be involved in at least one activity outside of the classroom. A club, an organization, something: we want everyone to be involved in at least one activity. That’s our goal.”
