The Ignite the Irish fundraiser is an annual tradition at Cathedral High School. The sole purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for tuition assistance in hopes to give every student a fair chance at Cathedral Education.
Mrs. Jean Smith ‘97, Director of Lifelong Connections and Head of Ignite the Irish, said, “It is an opportunity for the entire student body to support the mission of the school.”
Each student is required to fulfill a philanthropy requirement by either raising a minimum of $250 via the personal online fundraising site from August 19th- September 13th or coming to school on October 16th to serve the community and Cathedral.
The money raised helps go to almost 40% of students that receive financial aid. Any money raised over the personal goal goes to activities, clubs, and sports that each student chooses to donate to. Students are suggested to share their donation page via texting, emailing, and posting to social media to reach the most amount of people they can. They’re also encouraged to share why they love Cathedral and what the fundraiser is for.
Once students have raised 60% of their goal, or $150, students can leave the khakis and polo at home and show up to school wearing jeans/ sweats/ yoga pants along with a spirit shirt, appropriate shoes, and lanyard everyday until September 13th.
Not only do students get out of their uniforms, students that raised the $250 do not have to come to school on October 16th, and prizes will be given weekly for the highest percentage of goals reached.
People can also donate certain food items to St. Nick’s Food Pantry or donate coats to Coats for Kids to earn up to 30 dollars toward their fundraising goals. At the end of the fundraiser, the top students that raised the most money will earn bonus money to whichever student activity they chose!
Mrs. Nicole Beasley ‘98, Executive Vice President of Advancement, said, “These funds insure any child who wants to attend Cathedral can, while enhancing the club, sports, and activities they are most passionate about!”
