Camp Cathedral has been a staple for parents to send their children to since 2007. While Cathedral had sports camps originally, they did not have enrichment camps, which are academic or interest based camps.
“We already offered sports camps, but we lacked enrichment camps. The president at the time, Mr. Helmich, was a big advocate for getting it started because he wanted us to utilize it as a way to bring new families onto the campus,” said Mr. Ernst, Director of Camp Cathedral Summer.
This expansion of enrichment camps at Cathedral allowed a broader variety of children to be able to participate at camps on the Hill. For example, some of the more popular enrichment camps are Adventure Camp, Minecraft Camp, Safe Sitter, Media Camp, and Filmmakers Camp.
The interest in camps on the Hill has only grown since 2007. Cathedral summer camps now have over 2,000 registrations and around 1,500 campers. This is a huge increase from the previous 500-600 campers and 1,000 total registrations. “We’ve doubled in size over the last ten years,” said Ernst.
Considering the popularity of the camps on the Hill, it can be difficult to obtain a spot in the more sought after camps. Ernst said, “We have over thirty enrichment camps, out of the 85 that we offer, are already sold out. As well as a few of our sports camps. So, we do have a very high demand for our camps that fill quickly.”
