The month of May is when students begin to become excited as they near the end of the school year and for some the end of their high school career, however, it is also a month when stress levels seem to rise.
Students are becoming informed of the content of their final exams and what they should do to prepare for them, as well as the dates regarding AP Exams. For many, academic aspects can be a source of stress and anxiety. With long to-do lists and multiple finals to study for, the upcoming weeks can be one of the most challenging times to set aside moments to relax.
Some Educators have the opportunity to meet in the “Community of Practice -CoP”. From the wellness group, Cathedral decided to offer calming mornings for students especially as final exams begin to creep closer and students begin to feel that build-up of stress on their shoulders.
These mornings are set aside to offer students an opportunity to learn about wellness tools. Mrs. Schommer, the coordinator of Wellness Wednesday and a Health and Life Coach says, “This time allows students to remember to find some calm during the fourth quarter when stress and anxiety can grow.”
Wellness Wednesday is going to be taking place every Wednesday at 8 am until finals in the College and Career Center. April 17th, April 24th, May 1st, and May 8th are the exact days on which these calming and relaxing morning sessions will be held.
Using this relaxation center, students could improve their academic performance as they won’t be experiencing as much stress. It might also be a perfect place to voice any concerns or stressors to peers or even Educators so that you can be provided with any assistance or just have a chance to get it off of your chest. Mrs. Schooner says, “It’s always important to prioritize self-care. Sometimes you don’t know what you need until you experience new self-care tools.”
