A tradition unlike any other… The Intramural Basketball Tournament. A tournament of misfits and wannabe basketball players is set to culminate tomorrow in the WAC. The long awaited championship game is between Los Pollos and the C-Boys.
However this year is unlike any other. The two teams hold a special rivalry due to a certain bloodline that is shared between them. Junior Nicky Neale and senior Billy Neale are rostered on separate teams.
The Chickens, an interesting name to pick for intimidation purposes, has combined representation from multiple sports. Including star Center Nicky Neale. Nicky had the pleasure of snapping the ball to Danny O’Neil this past season and helped lead the Irish to their 8 regular season wins. “I mean of course there’s going to be sibling rivalry.” Junior Jack Gause, member of Los Pollos said, “At the end of the day we just have to know we’ve got the better team.”
The C-Boys on the other hand are hosting a primarily senior-heavy roster. A familiar name can be spotted on the C-Boys roster, that of Billy Neale, Nicky’s older brother. The two were just a few feet away from each other all year with Billy positioned at Right Guard, the position directly to the right of the Center. In addition, Billy was invited to play in the U.S. Army Bowl this past year.
“We took a tough loss to them earlier in the season” Senior Zach Meeks, member of the C-Boys said, “I’m excited to see the brothers match up, expect a very physical game.”
Out of school, the boys are forced to play nicely at home. Mother and English teacher Mrs. Jennifer Neale said “I will be very interested to see how the game goes, they both think they are better than the other, and I hope to God a fight doesn’t break out.”
This game is guaranteed to leave students and faculty on the edge of their seats. Be sure to tune in tomorrow with Quinn Gianoli, Luke Spencer, Wade Knapp, and myself, Roch Egan on the mic.
