As summer approaches, so do the AP tests. The AP tests are designed to test students’ knowledge of the class they took during the year. This year the tests will take place from May 6 until May 17.
The tests will either be taken at 8 am or 12 pm depending on the class a student is enrolled in. You are able to find the time and date of your test on the AP college board website or ask your teacher for more details.
AP classes are used as a way for students to get a college credit while still in high school. For example, if a student takes AP calculus and passes the exam they will either be given advanced placement in college, or the other choice is that they won’t have to take calculus at all.
Vice President of Academic support Brett Blondi said, “Taking AP classes prepares you to be successful in college.” The AP test is graded on a scale from 1-5 with a 3 being the lowest passing score. Cathedral offers many AP classes and also AP opportunities such as the AP capstone. The AP capstone is a graduation path for students requiring 6 AP classes to be completed and passed including AP research and AP seminar. Some of the courses Cathedral offers are AP biology, AP Chemistry, AP history, AP psychology, AP statistics, and many more.
Senior Daniel Kent, who is in the last stretch of earning the AP capstone, gives his advice to students taking the test. “I have taken about 12 AP classes, usually I start studying 2 weeks in advance, and I look through all the notes I’ve taken. I also make quizlets and watch YouTube to review about the class. Teachers are very helpful with preparation, too.”
