Luke Spencer – 49ers For The Win
It’s Super Bowl season again, and for the second time in five years, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will face off in the biggest game of the season. In 2020 the Chiefs came out on top 31-20, but a lot has changed since then.
San Francisco is favored by 1.5 points on ESPN, and I think they will easily cover that spread. I’m expecting the 49ers to win by at least two scores, as this Chiefs team is simply not as talented as they usually are.
Patrick Mahomes is ridiculous, everyone knows that, but the weapons around him this year are average at best. Travis Kelce can only do so much, and Mahomes has little help at receiver. Rookie Rashee Rice is decent, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justin Watson have struggled at times this year. This 49ers secondary, led by Charvarius Ward and Ambry Thomas, should be able to dominate on the outside.
The strength of the 49ers defense is up front, with Nick Bosa, Chase Young and Javon Hargrave making up the defensive line. Those three will get to Mahomes, as the Chiefs offensive line is not necessarily a strength.
Offensively, the 49ers have a clear advantage as well. They are a run-dominant team behind All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey. But, different from the 2020 team, this 49ers team can sling it too. Former 7th round pick Brock Purdy has been stellar at quarterback, but he has a LOT of help. Between McCaffrey, receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk and tight end George Kittle, the 49ers offensive arsenal is undoubtedly the best in the NFL. The Chiefs defensive backs, led by Trent McDuffie and L’Jarius Sneed, will have their hands full all night.
So to any bettors out there, Niners -1.5 seems like free money right now, but another reason to take the 49ers is so that Taylor Swift won’t pop up on the TV every five seconds. Senior Drew Douglas said, “I want the 49ers to win just because I’m sick of seeing Travis and Taylor.”
Ben Holmes – Mahomes Gets Third Ring
Here we go again, Super Bowl 58.
Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers, two teams who have high hopes for the future. The teams go head to head on Sunday, February 11th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Can Mahomes, at 28, do it for a third time after playing for 7 years in the NFL? I think he can, and I think it will be a breeze!
Even though much of the world is expecting to see the dramatic downfall of the Chiefs I think they are going to rise to the challenge once again. Having one of the best quarterbacks and tight ends in the league, they are going to present a formidable force and may be unbeatable. The downside of another championship win however, will mean we will all have to see Taylor Swift so much I might throw a rock at my tv. Even worse, having to see Jackson Mahomes do TikTok dances instead of celebrating with his brother.
Senior Josh Castor says “I think Patrick Mahomes will win this Super Bowl. I also think the duo of him and Kelce is unstoppable. I think he is a top quarterback, of all time, and would put him behind Manning, Brady and Ellway.”
The facts are where it’s all at. Mahomes has the experience, having been in this position 3 times already. He knows the excitement of winning but also the frustration of tough losses, particularly the whopping defeat of 31-9 against the Buccaneers in 2020. Having had this experience, Mahomes knows what it takes.
Like in any major sport, the ability to manage expectations, keeping stress at bay and holding on to a positive attitude can make the difference between winning and losing. Mahomes has it all. The same cannot be said for the other quarterback in this year’s Super Bowl, Brock Purdy. Brock was the final pick of the draft at number 262.
To be fair he is a rising star and has had some outstanding plays to help his team reach the Super Bowl finals but experience always beats beginners. We saw that when the 43 year old Tom Brady beat Mahomes in 2020 with that 31-9 score. With that I think Mahomes will get it done.
