The Grammys: arguably the most entertaining award show of them all. Whether you watch it for the performances, speeches, awards or even the fashion, it has appeal for almost everyone.
This year’s Grammys aired this past Sunday, Feb. 4. With the Grammys comes numerous opinions. Did they pick the right winner? Are they wearing the best dress? Many controversial topics spiral around the night of and day after the award show.
If you’re a fan of country music, then you might have been surprised by the outcome of the Country Album of the Year Grammy winner. There were five incredibly talented nominees: Laine Wilson’s Bell Bottom Country, Kelsea Ballerini’s Rolling up the Welcome Mat, Brothers Osborne’s Brothers Osborne album, Tyler Childers’ Rustin’ in The Rain, and lastly, but certainly not least, Zach Bryan’s Zach Bryan album.
Many country fans expected Zach Bryan to come out on top. He earned the largest streaming week for a rock album in chart history, 200,000 sales in the U.S. and 233 million streams in the first week. Kelsea Ballerini had an eye-opening album about heartbreak and love that was extremely popular. Tyler Childers and Brothers Osborne also gained immense success this past year. Laine Wilson came out with the win.
Mega-country fan Senior Neely Green said, “There is no doubt Laine Wilson is talented, but Zach Bryan broke records and sold out stadiums. He is playing on repeat in my car and at least five of my friends’ cars too.”
After some country music debate, let’s jump into what some would say is the most exciting part. The fashion. Miley Cyrus shocked us with her 80s hair and five separate outfit changes.
Her red carpet look was gold, wild, and funky. She stuck to a theme for the remaining four. Wearing a shiny mini dress for her performance, a feathered and sequin dress to receive her first Grammy and a shiny black jumpsuit to get the other.
Taylor Swift surprised the world by announcing her next brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department, while receiving her first Grammy of the evening. Swift wore a white Schiaparelli Gown with long black velvet gloves which some have speculated might tie to the theme of her new album. Some loved this look and others did not, but she won everyone back over after her thrilling announcement.
All in all, the evening proved to be a successful celebration of music as many look forward to the release of many new albums later this year.
