Looking for a fun way to say “Thanks” or share a special thought with someone? Then Candy Grams are for you. The Candy Grams are small bags of candy that are delivered to students during their first class of the day. Attached will be a sweet note on a pink heart! They are available for $1.00 each or $5.00 for six. If you have not already seen where you can buy the Candy Grams, they can be found by the teacher’s table in the dining hall.
Once you’ve written your note, put your Candy Gram, and the money, in a provided envelope and place it in the box. Candy will later be added to the note. The last day to buy them is on Monday, February 12, so if you haven’t bought them yet, then as Mrs Ford says, “Buy your Candy Grams!” The Candy Gram fundraiser, led by Mrs Ford, has been going on for 10-12 years. The NHS students donate all the candy for the grams. This year they will be passed out on Tuesday the 13th, due to Valentine’s Day being on Ash Wednesday and it being the beginning of Lenten fasting.
The majority of the money goes towards Leukemia, which is a blood cancer, and the rest of the money goes towards the school.
At Cathedral, there are multiple assemblies to celebrate different events or holidays throughout the year. However, we don’t have any major event or assembly for Valentines Day. It’s unique that Cathedral has this Candy Gram fundraiser which gives students an opportunity to participate in a Valentines activity at school.
Senior Jules Hollis agrees, “I think it’s cute! It’s cool, because we don’t do anything for Valentine’s Day and you can send them to your friends. It lets people know you care about them”.
Mrs Ford hopes to see more support towards this fundraising for Leukemia, so “encourage your friends to buy them!” She hopes to surpass the largest amount of money ever raised, which was about $500.
